Farewell Angelina

Mahanaim Gallery 2021

Curator: Nava Harel Shoshany

This exhibition, which is named after Bob Dylan's famous song, is concerned with the changes in a man's point of view and social behavior in different stages of his life especially as they are measured against the social expectations in his surroundings.

The Israeli culture is considered to expect conformism from its members. This is apparent mostly in the call to serve the country. The artist, looking back on his life, presents for the viewer visual reactions that indicate the interaction he had with this call in his youth, through the military service and beyond, during his gradual integration into society.

The works represent tensions and anxieties that were formed during his life, those that stem from the romantic notion of sacrifice which contrasts with the notion of coming to terms with the idea of living on our sword forever.

The show invites its visitors to a critical discourse about the social and security reality of Israel – a reality abundant with moral conflicts that are interwoven in our lives.

The drawings and paintings are laid on a variety of paper materials and demonstrate use of different painting materials: oil, acrylic, ink, charcoal, etc.
